他还预期，美国有能力和中国大陆和平共处，但挑战越来越巨大，且北京变得越来越具有侵略性。（United States could coexist peacefully, but the challenge is enormous and Beijing is becoming more and more aggressive）
不过，他也表示，美国相信台湾有和平生活的权利，想看到其国际角色，尤其是疫苗、疫情相关议题，台湾在其中应该有角色，不应被国际社会忽视。（We believe Taiwan has the right to live in peace. We would like to see its international role, especially in areas such as vaccines, and issues related to pandemics）

被问到拜登和习近平是否会在10月G20的会议上首次碰面，他则说，预期两人未来将有某种形式的接触（My expectation will be that we'll have some sort of engagement before too long）。
